Hobby Lobby, the leading store for all your Christian arts and crafts needs, was fined $3 million this week in a civil settlement that alleged the Oklahoma based company ignored red flags and purchased thousands of antiquities that may have been stolen from Iraq among other places. The red flags included the advice Hobby Lobby received, which was: “You can’t buy this stuff! It’s obviously stolen!”

Hobby Lobby claims the rapid collection of these biblical artifacts was unrelated to their new Museum of the Bible, a non-profit organization run by Hobby Lobby, that has been rapidly collecting biblical artifacts.

Hobby Lobby was previously most famous for selling cheap crap and denying women access to healthcare. In recent years, the chain, along with the family that owns it, has been dedicating their lives and fortunes to encouraging people to read the bible and to learn about biblical values. “People just don’t seem to know what’s in the bible. We aim to change that,” said company President Steve Green.

As for the settlement and the allegations, Green said, “We had no way of knowing that coveting and stealing bibles, then lying about it was wrong. There ought to be some sort of list of things that people can’t do.”

The story made headlines across the nation as experts say it marked the first time in history that a person promoting Christian values has engaged in hypocrisy.
